I think someone in the LetsTalkGuild forum IS selling a 12 string for about $1000 or less. Maybe it's 1Charlie who sent you the PM ?

?? Martin's HPL stands for High-Pressure Laminate. It is a different kind of laminate but it is a laminate.

Taylor's laminate is three layers of very thin woods slathered with glue and pressed together. The core is a very thin sheet of poplar, not much different than the top and bottom layers. Calling it solid poplar is a very generous way to put it, though since it is not sawdust and binder then one could say it is "solid" wood but it is so thin that you do not get the kind of tone from it that you get from a real solid wood back and sides like you see on the 300s and above (and the old 200s before they switched those several years ago to laminate/plywood). The 200s and below get their tone from their solid wood tops plus the overall shape and construction of the back and sides.

I just recently bought a 12 String guitar manufactured in China. It is one of the most beautiful instruments I have ever owned !!! Solid Rosewood sides and 2 piece back, solid Engelmann spruce top, 5 piece mahogany/rosewood neck with a smooth-playing ebony fretboard, and a slim neck shape and an enhanced fingerboard edge. also a passive SRT Zero Impact pickup. It's a Yamaha, and it sounds amazing !!! It came with a hard soft case, but I spent a little more and bought a Gator case for it, and I changed out the nut, bridge saddle, and bridge pins from the Urea that Yamaha uses to Graphtec TusQ, and the sound is exquisite, it just rings !!! I saved a great deal of cash on it and it is easily worth twice what they are being sold for !!! It's an LL1612-RW Yamaha , check one out !!! You will love it

How do you like it? I've been kind of interested in one of those since I saw Springsteen rocking one live.

A Garrison! I have a G41-12 that I love!
I know of one here in Canada for 500 CAD with case, its a G50-12 in near mint condition. Not sure if they would mail it. It is a music store near me though so I can look up the info and you could contact them if you are interested. |

seeking 12 string
hello! if you want to spend $1000 or less on a 12 string, you may be setting yourself up for frustration. less expensive ones can go out of tune easily and have intonation problems also. I have a LKSM Taylor 12 that cost me $2300 years ago. It's great. I recently saw one on AGF for $1800. So if you keep your eyes open and can scrape together another $800 it would be a good idea. Well worth avoiding problems later. Not to mention the superior tone. Best wishes and God bless.

I've noticed the Takamine GJ72CE-12 gets good user reviews.

I saw a used stock Larrivee L-03R on e-bay for $800.
I tried a lot of 12 strings (Taylor, Martin, Larrivee, Yamaha and others) and ended up ordering a Larrivee back in late 2004 with a mahogany top, venetian cutaway and bone nut/saddle. If you haven't tried one, you don't know what you are missing. This is great for fingerpicking and strumming and this is great for Gordon Lightfoot (Early Morning Rain, Carefree Highway, Canadian Railroad Trilogy to name a few). You can also find an old Gibson 12 string like he plays for a fairly reasonable price. |

More recently picked up a New Hartford-built Guild F-212XLCE, you know, for alternate tunings. Both are super stellar 12-strings. JF30-12.... F-212XLCE....
