There are a lot of much more rich & famous singers out there who I don't think are qualified to carry his microphone...

The Man With The Golden Voice - many don't know he played with Roxy Music for a few years as well. He was with them when I saw them on the Avalon tour.

Tough question....almost anyone would be better than what I have now! Probably would take Dan Fogelberg, or mid-70's Dylan. If I was a girl I'd probably pick Mary Chapin Carpenter.

I like my own well enough. I took singing lessons years ago. The teacher asked me what my goals were and I said that I wanted to sing well enough that I didn't embarrass myself. He said that would be easy enough. There was a lady who had her lesson just before me and she was a beautiful singer. The teacher told me she had been taking lessons from him for eight years. So after a few months he told me I was good to go. "Go forth and sing your heart out," he said. I said that I was surprised that he was kicking me loose after two months and the lady before me had been there eight years. He told me that the difference between her and me was that I was happy to sing like me and she wasnt going to be happy until she could sing like someone else.

Most people don't know that both Frank Sinatra and James Brown were tough task masters to play behind,-- you mess up just a little and you were "gone"!

Me? I was happy enough back in the day but right now I'll settle for Merle Haggard for men and Emmy Lou Harris for women!

If I could have the voice of the lead singer in Disturbed, the one who does the cover of Sounds of Silence, I'd be well satisfied.

Hard to believe that after all these pages, no mention of Sting.

Rod Stewart is another. He's way more versatile than some realize. Go back and listen to him when he was with Jeff Beck.

David Gilmour has such a resonant voice.

Any of those three would do just fine.

Late to this old thread party--

It of course depends on what kind of music you like to play-- I like acoustic blues, if I could have a singing voice (and I don't have one) I'd take Brownie McGhee.

Scrolling through the thread there were a fair number of sixties rockers mentioned, surprised no one picked Steve Winwood.

Rod Stewart is still incredible. Not sure I would want his voice, but it is certainly one of the most identifiable voices around. You can not miss his tones for anyone else. I had the pleasure of singing with him at a house party in Montreal when he was in town with The Faces. Totally agree about Sting, and yeah, I would not mind his voice.
