Default Battle of the Machine Heads

Please excuse my ignorance - how does one determine the peghole diameter when ordering new machine heads? Is it as simple as measuring the width of the hole through the headstock? Also which heads are recommended? Grover/Gotoh etc?

Many thanks
Aden

yup.

MOST solid head tuners are 10mm diameter. some locking tuners are bigger.

as to which are BETTER?

YOU REALLY WANT TO OPEN THIS?

the most drooled over seem to be anything by waverly or gotoh 510s.

FOR ME, locking tuners are a waste of money as if you wrap your strings properly they don't slip (see frets.com). other tuners?

I use cheapies from Bezdez on ebay and never had a problem with any of them. and they cost less than 1/3 of the gotohs, and about a millionth of the waverleys!!
