Default JBL Eon One Question

I have had the Eon One for about 2 months now.
I use a Yamaha mixer with it.
My guitar sounds good through the mix and my vocals are OK but when I'm talking and not singing, people say the sound is muffled

I run the channels almost flat but add a bit of reverb to the vocals.
What else do I need to do to improve the vocal sound?

I don't have the Eon One, but for dull vocal sounds, most of the time you need to turn up the Treble (High) on the vocal channel

Usually, it’s a good idea to turn the reverb off when talking.

You have to make sure that your tower section has a solid connection or everything comes out of the woofer and your voice will be muddy. I sometimes have trouble with mine. The cure is to pull back on it while applying downward pressure. It's an irritating problem that seems to only happen when the extensions are used.

I keep the treble setting on the mic channel at 12:0 clock and the bass setting at 9:0 clock

Actually, this is a common thing. Part of it is proximity effect with the mic - you get closer when talking, because you are not as loud as when singing, so the bass/low mids get boosted by proximity. Try talking louder but stay a couple of inches away from the mic.

Let me second that suggestion. The most common mics used for stage work have a marked proximity effect. And yes , cut the lows and or boast the highs on the vocal channel to taste as well.

Thank you for your help, everyone.
I have the settings set with more bass and less treble right now.
I will reverse it and see if that helps.

Is there a time and place where running the PA settings flat is a good idea?

Also, I do run the JBL flat and use the mixer to adjust highs, mids and lows.
Is this a good way to do it?

Yes, It's always good to try to run a system as close to flat EQ as the acoustics of a venue will permit.

Your usage of the mixer to adjust EQ while having the JBL set flat is how I would probably do it. Remember, every adjustment to your mixer will affect the incoming gain on the JBL. If you add Bass and Mid-range frequency gain or add more Volume on one or more mixer channels it can have the effect of possibly overloading the input gain on the JBL. Thus, you'd adjust either the output of the mixer or the input of the JBL to eliminate any possible distortion in the system. Whether you add or subtract Bass, Mids or Trebles from one or more mixer channels, adjust the Volume of the entire system with the Main volume of the JBL.

In a venue with carpeting and drapery, you'll likely need to adjust your overall EQ to compensate for the absorption of all frequencies. Conversely, in a bright venue, you'll likely have to cut some frequencies to have a more pleasing overall sound.
