Default Simple question

Adirondack guitar.

Will a 1 1/2 inch centre seam separation that has been hide glued and cleated have any impact on the sound / volume.

All I can tell you is there are allot of people that swear by the sounds of old dreads. Allot of those very, very expensive old dreads have repaired cracks, Make your own assumptions.

Is the separation 1-1/2” long or 1-1/2” wide?
Is the separation in the top or the back center seam?

Assuming you mean a separation 1-1/2” long and along the back seam there won’t be any noticeable impact on sound or volume. The back seam usually has an inner re-enforcing strip so if it was a back separation a cleat would not be needed as the strip acts as a cleat.
That means that the separation is in the top soundboard and if repaired professionally will have little to no effect on tone or volume.

I don’t know, but I have this nagging thought that adding a cleat & attaching more wood to the underside of a carefully tap-toned top must certainly change the tone.

I'm sitting here with a guitar with a carefully tap tuned top and picking an open string, then picking the same string with my left hand resting on the top, which I would think would have a greater effect than a tiny cleat. Guess what. No difference in tone.
