Default Going to Barcelona with an aching in my heart!

Would appreciate any advice concerning getting a local luthier made classical ........any recommended shops perhaps anyone has dealt with, getting it back to Colorado, customs experience. Not really interested in a "line up" type name example........Alhambra has a complete line up of multiple models. Thank you in advance!

If u want something more unique try Josep Melo http://www.meloguitars.com/contact-us

Otherwise I believe ignacio fleta's sons are still building guitars in his workshop in barcelona.

I love Barcelona. One of my favorite cities. If it were possible I'd move there in a heartbeat.... But I found my classical guitar, of all places... in Mexico by a guy in a little tienda. I played it and HAD to have it. I was stunned by the price. $1800 pesos. I can't remember his name off the top of my head. Sadly it didn't make the trip back to the states without being smashed to smithereens. When I go back I'll see if I can find another by him that is as good and hand carry it back.

Good luck finding your classical.

I visited Josep Melo in his workshop a few years ago. He builds all types, but specialises in archtops. His steel strings I have played are Klein inspired and not to my taste. But, I played a classical of his and it was very good indeed.

You should visit Angel at Picado Guitars in Berga - great guitars, good value - a little out of Barcelona, but worth it. Many people have ordered from them on my recommendation and not been disappointed.

Currently I play classicals by Paul Fischer and Christopher Dean, but still keep a Cadete Picado made for me. The most exciting models are the ones with a doble tapa (cedar lined back to improve volume and projection).

Unless you can guarantee 100% that any instrument you buy meets CITES criteria you could be teetering on the brink of a bureaucratic nightmare-and possible confiscation at customs. You will need both import and export CITES certification if it contains any rosewood, for example. Until CITES gets its act together and sorts itself out as regards international travel regulations with listed species I would avoid the potentially expensive risk.

What a great opening line for a song...
