Default Leach - Millenium Redwood over Macassar, w/VA neck - lower price

You'll never find another of these: a 2016 Harvey Leach Cremona (OMish) with a "Millenium Redwood" (actually it's a Sequoia) top with a stunning figure and chatoyance. As I understand the story, it is illegal to harvest Sequoia in California. This one had stood on a college campus and long ago had a hollow spot filled with cement. When it finally had to be taken down, they discovered the immense weight of the tree coupled with the minerals in the cement had created this crazy figure. The wood sells at a substantial premium, if you can find it. Very dark Macassar Ebony back and sides whose colors come alive with brighter light. The Frets are EVOs and there is a sound port. The neck is of Peruvian Walnut w/ebony fingerboard and bridge. There is inlay at the 12th fret and on the head stock. Seeing how it was Harvey Leach (his Arctos line) that built the guitar, one just could not get it without an example of his renowned inlay, an utterly exquisite orchid in this instance. It also has a captured nut, zero fret, and a Macassar Ebony pickguard that has never been installed.

Harvey is the inventor of the folding neck used on Voyage Air guitars, so I had that installed too and got the premium Voyage Air case, which is quite nice. You can fly with this as a carry-on. I have never done that, but have taken it on car trips and canoe trips (in a dry bag - which it fits). Hearing this, you may fear it is in less-than-perfect condition: if you did, you'd be wrong, it's not. "Excellent" describes it instead. I looked it over carefully and found only one mark, a pinhead-sized little circle on the lower bout. When being built, this guitar was featured on a TV show about Harvey.

In Harvey's words, "it seems louder than I expected and really clear. I haven’t tried it tuned down (I really like the Millennium in open G as it seems to have a resonator sort of sound)... Well I thought it would be unlike anything you have... since it really didn’t sound like anything I’ve built before. It’s closest to the sound I hear from the Carpathian/black ebony guitar I have here... lots of clarity and note separation." I have tended to keep it in lower tunings which complement its somewhat unique voice. I think it would fit exceptionally well in a band which uses resonator instruments. Trying to describe tone is for me like telling a blind person about color. Sorry.

Lower Bout - 15"
Upper Bout - 11"
Waist - 8.875"
Butt Depth - 4.375"
Body Length - 19.375"
Nut Width - 1.75"
Scale - 25.625"
Saddle Width - 2.375"

It would make an amazing Christmas gift to yourself - $4700. (new lower price)

Sorry, no ready-made clips. I don't record often. If you really want to hear something, I can PM it - let me know.

Let's move it up so others get to see just how nice a top that is. Many will have never seen anything like it.

Default Chatoyance?

It's a beautiful guitar, but I had to look up chatoyance:

Chatoyance in Wood
However, figured woods also show chatoyance. Consequently, light refraction creates the cat’s eye effect. Additionally, the optics are often enhanced with wood finishing.

One cause of chatoyance is the tree being under stress as it grows, causing the grain to curl back on itself. This results in an effect that basically looks like waves within the wood. This is an amazing and beautiful 3D look that changes as you look at the wood from different angles.[/I]

I can't wait to break out "chatoyance" at the next cocktail party.
Could it possibly work in a pick up line?

"By the way your skin has a lovely chatoyance."

Maybe they will misinterpret it as "annoyance"?

Let's make this even sweeter - a lower price - $4800. I have considerably more invested in it, but I need to make room for another coming.

Let's knock it to the front so folks can see I've lowered the price. What a way this would be to start off the New Year!

Where did all the pictures go to? Or don't they allow them if you get too deep into the annals?

I am seriously considering consigning this so will then need to get more in order to come out even to what I'd get here. But not quite yet. I will lower it once more.

(edit) Aha, they reappear when it went forward. Good to know.
