I like guitars and my name's George (duh). I'm not "Guitar George who knows all the chords" as referred to in Dire Straits Sultans of Swing - but, I'm happy to report that I know some of them after many years of practice!

They refer to my namesake at 1:26 in this video.

I had struggled to come up with an unused screen name for several minutes. Then I looked at my left hand, saw the label on the beverage I was drinking and Frostie was born. (Used the -ie ending on a whim.)

It cracks me up, every time I see your username. And even better when I learned that so many Rush fans mispronounced his name, which is a long E (like Peer't), not a short e (like, well, Pert), LOL.

I’ve held off contributing long enough, but have really enjoyed reading the posts.
Thanks salsarev for an obviously great thread idea.

woodbox

It’s from a song I started to write 30 years ago.
One of the hundreds that never blossomed to completion.
But the line was about how:
“ ... these little wooden boxes we play can build bridges and open doors ... “

It’s a line I’ve used here on AGF from time to time, and I like the sentiment,
but never finished the song cuz John Denver did it better with “This Old Guitar”.

I just shortened ‘wooden boxes’ to woodbox one Christmas morning as I joined here, almost 9 years ago.

Well, wood... I've been waiting for you to jump in here.

That's a good story. Thanks for sharing it.

Mine originated years ago when I first got on the internet and discovered I needed a "screen name" instead of my actual name to use in forums. Your turn.
I started going to Negril Jamaica in '98, went back every year for a while. After airfare it was actually fairly inexpensive since we stayed at independent properties instead of the dreaded all inclusives. Wife and I got married on the beach there. After a few years we decided that we'd better only go when we could pay for it upfront which cut it down to every other year. Then we started camping, bought a large pop-up, and would rather camp on a lake 4 or 6 times a year than have one Jamaica vacation. Been 10 years now and yeah, I miss it...but "you can't go home again", I hear that the evil twins (guns & drugs) have pretty much ruined the out-on-our-own experience and it's no longer safe to wander the beach at night like we used to love to do.

Now that we're both retired (although I still gig whenever I can) and have moved to the hills of NW Georgia there's just too much of this country to explore. Still...I'll get back to the Caribbean somehow someday. I even bought us a couple of those newfangled full-face snorkels that let you breathe normal thru your nose...which have had almost zero use

I wrote a book while on a long Navy WestPac. One of the characters was a wizard named Zexxor. I adopted the name from a video game my deceased brother used to play called Zaxxon.

Homage to the Gretsch Superaxe, designed by Chet Atkins in the mid 1970's.

Chet wanted to call it the Highroller, based on the distinctive "dice-like" fretboard inlays, but the marketing gurus shot the idea down, choosing instead the rather generic Superaxe name. Shame.

I've got one and it's a great playing guitar.

A hundred years ago (OK... the 80s) I was a new employee
at the computer center at Clemson. I was in the basement
at Riggs where the VAXes were. I was handed a tape and
told to install Ultrix 1.0 on a cast-off 750 they had. I was sitting
there at the teletype console answering installation questions.
"what is the name of this host?":
I had just seen a Hardees commercial on teevee that had
made me laugh. I just now found the commercial on youtube!

Anyhow... I named the host "hubcap". By the time the Internet
took off I was the system administrator for "hubcap", the only
Unix computer at the computer center. People began referring
to me as hubcap. I've been "hubcap" ever since.

Even tho I posted back on page1, thought I would re-post that I picked my name to honor Willie Mays. The sayheykid is 90 years old today. Happy birthday Mr. Mays!

Feral hogs have taken over here in Texas. My in laws have a ranch near the Red River and we like to keep the pressure on them - manage the habitat and keep the deer herd and turkeys healthy. Mahogany is usually my favorite back and sides - hence Hawg.
