Skysonic T902- Cheap but decent
Hey All,
I wanted a cheap pickup for a cheap gigging guitar. I've never been a fan of undersaddle's and i wanted something i could install myself as i didn't want to pay for an install that would cost half the price of the guitar. I get a great sound from my usual Baggs M1a with the style i play. For less than £50 UK or $60. The Skysonic is a good option if you don't want to spend a bunch. I like Skysonic pro-1 better as it provide 3 sources and the other 2 sources are selectable.

I’ve heard a few of these less expensive pickups that sound very good-the passive Donner Sound Seeker which is, astonishingly, under £30 is excellent through a good preamp. The fact remains, though, that if you have a good preamp to hand you probably have a better pickup than the Donner to run through it too. My only hesitation point with these cheaper pickups is reliability...I fear being caught out in a gig situation by a dead pickup or RF interference/dimmer rack noise. I’m certainly not averse to putting one in a spare guitar and trying it though, at under £50 it’s not too much of a roll of the dice!
