Smile Eastman 905 impressions

Morning y’all,

I saw a beautiful 905 that played just gorgeous. I mostly just see 805s which are equally amazing sounding.

Anyhow a 905 come up locally at a good price and so I wanted to check in to see if anyone out there has had any experience with this mode and might be willing to share their impressions.

Thanks in advance
Meir

Eastman makes a fine archtop. I have no experience with that model, but based on YOUR impression and the good price, my vote is: go for it!

IME the 905 is kind of a rare bird compared to the 805 - if the price is right do it...

I have an AR805 which is beautiful, and I believe thev905 to be the super deluxe version.

They are, indeed fine archtops but tend to sound more open and round than say '30s-'40s Gibson which are the ideal "comping" boxes.

The Eastman tone is (to my old ears) rather similar to a well made thin body flat top.

I say go for it.

I have a 2014 AR905CE that I've owned for a relatively short time. It's the first archtop I've ever owned, and while I'm still kind of coming to grips with it I can say it is just an absolute blast to play, offering a very nice contrast to my flat tops. And they are rather scarce, especially nowadays, so I'd say go for it and you can probably move it on easily if it doesn't float your boat.

Not sure I'd take that as a compliment
