I'm sure I'll pick up others in my area if I see them. I didn't pay a penny for the mint DS4 so even if it's repair costs a couple hundred, I'll still be in the green for value.

This thread prompted me to dust off my old Ultrasound. And I was wrong. I have a DS3 not 4. I forgot how nice this sounds and with a new Taylor, the ES2 was deep and full. The fx were just right and tone adjustments were effective. Nice to have a couple.

What size venue is the DS4 adequate for for
someone doing both vocals and guitar? And are the later Dean Markley versions inferior to the original and not worthwhile? The original is indeed hard to find. The one currently on Reverb is selling for nearly twice the price of the Dean Markley version on eBay and has a huge shipping cost to boot.

I had one of the original dark brown D50s as well as the powered extension cab that went with it. These are incredible amps. I sold the pair to a friend and still regret it. The only shortcoming was that there were no effects on the vocal channel. This was later added. I wish I'd at least kept the extension cab, which had a 50 watt power amp, a line input and a volume knob. I do sound for a friend's open mic in a small venue with just the cab and a wireless Xair 12 and it works great. Originally he used a Fishman Mini but this blows it out of the water.

This thread caused me to dust off my DS3. I did some pickup installation over the weekend and needed to test the guitars out.
I'd not paid close attention to the two channels before, but was surprised that I found it easier to get the best sound out of the mic channel not the guitar channel. It was literally 'plug, roll off bass, play.'

Here are my DS3 amp and Taylor ES2 settings - this is at living room volume. It is a nice clean tone to my ears. The notch and shape help greatly. What a great little amp!

I have a pre-Markley AG-50DS2 which I loved until it crapped out on me a few years ago. Hadn’t been played much and was surprised it went bad. Started making a strange “dying” sound when I switched it off. Went from bad to worse and started cutting volume intermittently (inconsistent & gravelly distorted sound). Took it to an amp tech who kept it a few weeks and couldn’t find the problem.
Would love to get it working again…but where should I take it for repair??? No Ultrasound service anymore. Any ideas what to do? Anyone have a schematic??? |

I have a Pre-DM DS2 as well and it sounds like mine has the same or similar issues to the previous poster.
I'd love to get it repaired so if anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate it. |
