Default Squire Affinity Strat HSS Bundle/pack

I just ordered the above from Sweetwater as a gift to a grandson who is graduating High School.
He is a beginner who has limited experience with a Recording King parlor. He recently played with an electric at a friends house and was quite enamored.
The “pack” comes with a cable, strap, picks, Fender Frontman 15g amp, and a free 3 month subscription to Fender Play.
I know there are better choices, but I believe this package will serve him well enough until he decides if guitar playing is something he loves. If not, Grandpa isn’t out much!

Appropriate...you launched him and he's on his way.

Congratulations! Make sure the guitar is easily playable. If you can't give it a great set-up (and that's ok, I don't do my own set-ups either), then invest the $50-$70 to have a professional do it. That's a fine starter set.

If he likes overdrive or distortion, you might consider adding a cheap but good pedal and running it thru the "clean" channel. Those Frontman amps have terrible distortion channels, but the "clean" side handles pedals well.

Starter packs have come a long way, it should be a suitable introduction to the electric guitar!

Congratulations to you and your grandson! I think that is a wonderful gift. Affinity strats are great entry level guitars. I hope your grandson enjoys it!

That is so very cool!! I'm sure he will love it. His parents might want to strangle you! But I'm sure your Grandson will love it. Wouldn't it be cool for him and his Grandpa to jam together at a family function one day? I would love that.

I don’t own a strat. So I have to say, if someone gifted me that package, I’d be thrilled! I’m betting your grandson will be too. Nice and fun gift.

What a great gift! It will help your grandson get his footing in the electric world and it's something that will always have great meaning for him.
