Are you a singer/guitar player, or a flatpicker, or a fingerpicker, or what?
If you are a fingerpicker, take a look at http://www.frettedinstrumentsnyc.com There should be plenty to keep you busy for years to come at this site! Personally, I've only barely started to scratch the surface. (based on how you worded your post, I'm kind of suspecting maybe you were looking for things that you would sing and accompany on guitar though????) |

Oh yes I do.... I had the same reaction when I ran into that web site! The guy who runs it is a great guy too, based on our e-mail conversations. I just wish it didn't take me so darn long to master most of these arrangements! I don't think I'll ever make more than a dent in those long lists of arrangements. Also see: http://herso.freeservers.com/tabs.html and http://dirk.meineke.free.fr/ for flamenco and classical stuff, respectively. Looks like this was not what the original poster was looking for, but I'm glad it was useful to post for others. Last edited by wcap; 09-14-2009 at 06:09 PM. |

Thanks for the first 2 links, I think that I will be a HAPPY camper for awhile! I just wish I could get all of Rick Payman's stuff off of the Whole Note site correctly, I find his stuff a lot of fun to play!
And Fingerstylist, you need to download the TablEdit program to be able to play back the files, it is a free download.

I note there's only been one reply to the poster's original question, so I guess I'll try and come up with some. Though saying that, depends on the performer's age and the age of the audience. And where you're playing. And whether you think the audience want to hear a singer playing guitar, or a guitarist singing, if you get what I mean.
So here's a list of stuff I do that goes down ok when I play solo gigs (I'm a singer who plays guitar):- American Pie - yes, obvious, but the audience loves it Breathe/Time/Wish you were here etc - even young kids seem to like Floyd Chasing Cars - but you'd have to be pretty confident vocal-wise to do this, as there's no hiding behind your guitar-playing Desperado/Hotel California/Lying Eyes - Eagles - for the older, more thoughtful type of audience Fire and rain - JT - again, for an audience that listens I'm yours - Jason Mraz - nice and sunny, just like... Hey there Delilah - Plain White Ts Like a rolling stone - anyone can sing it better than Bob! And a great, punky type of song - play it with attitude bro! p.s Bob invented punk. Life on Mars - Bowie uses some really odd chord sequences in a lot of his stuff, so really interesting to learn More than words - Extreme - show you can sing AND play the guitar! At the same time! Tears in heaven - ditto! Creep/High and dry/No surprises - depress your audience with some Radiohead! Nice tunes though. The drugs don't work - finish the job off with The Verve! Psycho killer - a fun Talking Heads tune, unusual topic for an open mic too Wherever I lay my hat (that's my home) - Paul Young's version - or Marvin Gaye if you prefer. Yesterday - or anything else by the Beatles. There you go. It's probably very UK-centric, and very pop orientated. And hey, I've just written my set list for next week! |
