2022 Martin Binding Issues? Yes!
If anyone is wondering about recent Martin guitars and binding issues:
I have a 2022 Ceo-7 that I was going over carefully to put up in the classifieds. I just noticed the binding is starting to separate at the top waist, bass side. The guitar is less than two years old. Good times. Last edited by Luckymud; 02-23-2024 at 02:01 PM. |

I mentioned all this shortly after I returned my 39 D-28 Authentic to the store from there selected warranty depot. At another forum . They thought I was over reacting. Well since that time. There have been many concerns about the issue. I bought a 000-42 39 reissue not long ago. Well. Guess what .. same thing. That guitar was traded off fast. As it was out of Warranty .

Is this still happening due to their green glue mandate?

All US builders are working under the same mandates, so probably not (only) the glue. Most folks say the binding shrinks and pulls away at the waist locations.

It seems to be the OOO and OM styles.

Dreadnoughts too - my D-18 has suffered from it, and I’ve read of others.

If it were my guitar I'd try to get some thin viscosity CA glue in the gap and tape it up before it gets worse. Just a little bit of glue might be all it takes. Don't listen to the nay sayers. WTH it's a guitar, it's not irreplaceable.

I just answered a Martin binding thread earlier and that thread has sunk down a few pages! And now it begins again! So, my 2015/6 CEO7 binding was repaired last year - all waists - by my luthier.....and yesterday I got my 2014? D18E and my 000-17 Black Smoke back with binding repaired. So, D, a 000, a 00 - why would it only be some, probably every guitar they make! Not happy Jan. As careful as my luthier is, the binding repair method effects the finish around it and he does a little touch up....clear on the CEO7 and D18, unnoticeable really. BUT the Black Smoke matt finish, as hard as he tried - he couldn’t match it....so he had to refinish the whole top and back! He said he had no idea what Martin finished it with! Anyway, overseas owner, not covered by Martin warranty, cost me a lot! Don’t sell any more overseas, Martin...if you don’t want to make them properly and repair them. Pffft! Sell them to the locals! Not getting anymore of my money. BluesKing777. |

But I'm definitely not going to do it myself and risk messing it up for someone else. Side note, this is my second guitar with the issue. The first is a 00-18 that is already planning to get sent to Martin for repair once the weather gets better. |

Not to pile on, but per above, I have two going back to Martin for binding, and ANOTHER ONE (my custom Ceo-7) that has some neck finishing issues straight out of the box (including what looks like a tooling mark that spans 2.5 frets on the side of the neck). I absolutely love the feel and sound of each of these guitars, but this is kind of absurd. |

What about guitars with wood binding and “protein glue’? Just got a d18 modern deluxe and I’m going to be bummed if it ends up with binding issues.

Happy to say my 2017 000-18, and 2023 D-35 have had no issues whatsoever.
