Default same guitar, $809.00, 139.99...

Someone restore my faith in mankind...is it someone selling trying to screw some unsuspecting buyer or someone totally ignorant (and too lazy to google) what a guitar is worth before they list it? These are two postings on two different sites, today, for the same guitar...or do you feel that if someone is too lazy to do the research on what a guitar is worth before they buy it they deserve to get taken....I'm curious as to feelings on the matter. Here's an even better question...if you came across some little old lady with a 1930 Martin OM 45 on sale for $200 what would you do???? I actually had this happen (but not an OM 45) at a garage sale. I took them aside and told them what they had.

What would I do? Well, I certainly wouldn't try to beat her down on the price. It's worth all of that.

Yea, it's rough out there. You gotta keep an eye open and watch yourself. It's a fact of life.

It seems that your issue is that someone offered for sale a guitar that does reflect its market value? If so, probably won’t sell. Have you heard of caveat emptor - principle that the buyer alone is responsible for checking the quality and suitability of goods before a purchase is made?

Pretty standard concept in free markets.

On this very forum a guitar I was interested in sold for about $2650 (I was offered a better price than that but decided not to pull the trigger).

It is now for sale again on the AGF for $3,300. Every time I see the add bump up, I wince thinking someone may pay that. It hasn''t sold yet, so maybe there's hope for informed buyers.

I have a Suzuki 700 classical from 1971. It's a great oldie I've had since new. All laminate.
On Reverb right now one at $979, one at $450, which is what a dealer told me mine is equivalent to, and couple on Ebay for $150-175.

A garage sale is one thing, but if you see a deal like that at a pawn shop you should know it's a scam.

I'm not sure what you're bothered about. I assume this is a private party sale, he can ASK whatever he wants...it is HIS guitar after all.

I happened to stumble upon the EBAY ad for the $809 version. I especially like this part:

"Over time it got several scuff marks, bumps and dents making the finish popped off from several areas; from headstock, neck side at the 6th fret, from top and bottom board, then I've tried to fix by painting some of those by my own. Since I've not have no dip vat I used just a brush; the result didn't come out all that good - maybe pretty a mess - however it was a crude job, but functional result."

I would love to see the wonders this guy could accomplish if he only had a dip vat.

I'm not bothered at all. Wince at whatever you would like to...
There's a big difference between what the "ASKING" price is and what the "PURCHASE" price is. Many items offered for sale have an artificially inflated "ASKING" price so when the price dickering starts...
When I sell guitars, I always ask what I consider to be the correct selling price. And I do NOT come off that price.

How skilled and aware a buyer is in checking over a guitar inside and out before buying is key to getting ripped off. Only from experience I have learned how to survey a used guitar and research same guitar to know value and pricing. No matter what the price is, a buyer ought to do that due diligence before buying, even if it looks like a steal of a deal. Just my opinion here. Lets be careful when buying.

Lol, that dip vat would have made all the difference!
