Default Cargo prices on the CA website

Composite Acoustics website lists two separate prices for the Satin Back Cargo without a pickup. They list a "Cargo Satin Back Raw" at $1399.99 and it lists a LR Baggs Element pickup as available so it doesn't come with a pickup. They also list a "Cargo Satin Back Raw (Non-electric)" at $1199.99. It also is available with a LR Baggs Element pickup so it seems to be the same guitar. The other thing is the Cargo Satin Back at $1399.99 has a "Packed Weight" of 9.81 lb. but the Cargo at $1199.99 lists a "Packed Weight" of 17.81 lb! The weight differences must be a typo but why would they list what seems to be the same model with the same features at 2 different prices?

Why don’t you ask them?

No no! Don't ask, there's lots of room for conjecture here. For example, the heavier Cargo may come with ballast.

One of them has heavy gauge strings? That could account for the weight differences. All I know for sure is that we bought ours (gloss blue with pickup) just before the big price jump 3-4 years ago. The same instrument went up by $600 from one week to another. We probably would not buy one now, and I'm not sure that our LGS has sold any since.

With Emerald releasing a new series monthly and the posters here enjoying ordering and sharing custom Emeralds, it gives us a lot to discuss and keeps the forum moving and interesting. I'm sure we would enjoy anything new you have to post about any other CF guitar brand.

Whoaaaa! Are sure that's correct?? That's barely over 2lbs and less than a Kg!
It's possible they have revised their build process radically. Cargos used to be the heaviest of all the small carbon guitars at just over 4lbs.

Cutting that in half--it must be a revised model. I haven't heard anything from CA for a long time so it's possible this is a new version Cargo.

I think that is still a change for the lighter. The early models made by the original CA were at least 4 pounds, if memory serves correctly--if so, then there's been a slight change somehow.

OK, so I contacted Composite Acoustics as eatswodo suggested and they promptly got back to me. A really nice person named Aubrey at Peavey looked into it and they discovered that their website was incorrect on the features of the Satin Back Cargo Raw guitars. The model listing for $1199.99 does not have the pickup and the model listing for $1399.99 does. It previously stated that the pickup was an option on both but they will correct their website going forward. Makes sense.

I also pointed out that Musician's Friends lists both models at $1399.99 and they will contact them to correct the pricing and features on their website.

We emailed back and forth a couple of times and it was taken care of. Really nice and prompt customer service!

All caused by a Cargo weight problem... always something ...

What?!?! Can't a guy get any SLEEP around here?

I don't know how much my Cargos weigh, but I know they were FAR less expensive than what is being quoted in this thread.

Edit: My Cargos weigh 3.5 lbs each, but I think most of the weight is in the strings.

Tony
