I bought a Taylor from Fanatic Guitars in Barcelona (great service btw). The EU regional office of Taylor was in the Netherlands and that office was beyond fantastic to deal with..

I can't tell from the picture but it appears to be the gap-fill putty they use, not the exposed wood.

I've had a number of Taylor necks off and exposed wood should not appear there.
