Thanks for the info on the cockpit crew Bob. Good to know they all made it. Being a Vietnam combat vet, I know a thing or two about “survivor guilt.” It haunts me to this day.

Wadcutter, that definitely puts a personal touch on the 261 disaster. So sad to see a young couple starting their lives together just to have them cut short. Also, thanks for your service in Vietnam.

Another crash not as well known that I find terrifying, tragic and fascinating is American Eagle flight 4184. Where as the 261 and Sioux City pilots were heroic, these pilots were not. Young and cocky and failure to de-ice caused a horrifying high speed straight vertical nose dive.

Thanks Russ, it was an honor and privilege to wear the uniform of my country. Re American Eagle Flight 4184, was that the prop plane that crashed around Buffalo somewhere I’m thinking?

The one your thinking of in buffalo was a prop plane, a Dash 8 but it was Colgate air 3407 in 2009.

The 4184 was a prop ATR plane but happened in Indiana close to Chicago.
