Default Please recommend tuners for Gibson J 45TV

Just received a wonderful 2011 J 45 TV. I need to get some better ratio tuners. Please recommend.
I need single tuners 3 X 3 headstock. no new hole drilling -direct replacements- cream button color.

I see these @ Stew Mac:

https://www.stewmac.com/Hardware_and...ers_3and3.html

I also would be up for anything higher than 15:1. The TV tuners have white buttons and sloppy gearing and 14:1 so the Low E is so hard to keep tuned.

Thank you.

Can you post a pic of your current tuners?

All the J45TVs on a Google search have Kluson plate mounts.

2011 TV should have 3 on a strip Klusons......not individual tuners.

If the OP is worried about sloppy gearing, I would not recommend those Stew Mac tuners.

Tippy, let me know if you’re looking to get rid of those tuners. I’ll gladly take them if your hands.

I put Gotohs on my J 50, but they are 15:1 and individual. The company that bought the Kluson name has 3 on a plate (if that’s what you need), but they’re also 15:1.

I’m happy with my Gotohs. They are much better than the repro Kluson-style machines that were on my J 50.

Brucebubs is right. Those a very high quality machine heads.

But notice that the rear part of the shaft is wide where it attaches to the plate. Check to see if they’ll drop into you J 45. Or be prepared for a little reaming.

Waverly look alikes that look better than the rectangular metal housing:

These might be non Gibson 3 on a plate but this banner J 45TV is a keeper and if there's no marks with these installed I might think these would look and more importantly work, for me:

Be careful - that link you posted for Waverly Golden Age shows slot-head tuners.

Default Comments on Golden Age

https://www.acousticguitarforum.com/...d.php?t=415690

Hi Tippy,
I’ve never tried the Golden Age—but have read comments here that would lead me away from them.

I have been very happy with all the Tone Pros I have bought from StewMac. In fact, I changed my Martin 0-18 tuners for Tone Pros for the look and all my Waterloos came with them as original. I have never had any problem with them and if I had, StewMac has a excellent exchange policy.

ok I found some apparently new, Kluson Supreme 3 Per Plate 18:1

Verbage:
The new Kluson Supreme series tuners have an 18:1 gear ratio in the traditional stamped steel housing. This particular set is designed for instruments using a plate mounted 3 + 3 tuner set and for the first time from Kluson, a supreme gear ratio for a true upgrade to original tuners. The housing bears the series name SUPREME in place of the original DELUXE moniker but this is the only hint to what lies hidden under the dust cover. Using all vintage specs these tuners will drop right into your instrument using the vintage 3 per plate tuners with no modifications other than getting used to real smooth and reliable performance that outshines the rest in its class

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Kluson-Supr....c100008.m2219

These should be nice. I wish I could get a cream color button.

Less gear backlash:

That's what I meant by plate mount.

Nice. I hadn’t heard of these 18:1s. Let us know how they work for you.
