I want to use one for music listening, and for recording my guitar......
It's between, AKG 240 http://www.guitarcenter.com/AKG-K240...83-i1406311.gc Vs ATH-M50's http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Audio-Techni...item5add244c3c Vs Dr Dre, http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Beats+By...&skuId=9836718

I can't comment on the others, but I have used the Audio Technica ATH-M50's for a few years now and love them. Extremely comfortable and very good sound reproduction. I record strictly acoustic guitar and vocals.

My favorites are Grados (and they are made in the USA )
http://www.gradolabs.com/product_pages/sr325.htm http://www.gradolabs.com/product_pages/sr225.htm They are open back so you have to be careful if used when recording but for setting up and listenting back they are great. I also have an AKG K240 Studio I sometimes use during recording.

I highly recommend the AKG K240 Studios. I use them for recording, mixing and listening. Terrific sound and designed to minimize hearing fatigue and damage from extended use. I replaced much more expensive Sony headphones with the AKGs about three years ago, and have never looked back!

I use the AKG 240 for everything. Having just sampled the Dr. Dre headphones this weekend, my initial feeling is that the AKG 240 is more accurate and therefore preferable.

I love my Senheisser HD 650's for both recording and listening. For the ultimate listening experience, I plug my Apogee Duet into a Bottlehead Crack with a Speedball Upgrade. The wonderful world of valves!

Hey Yoder, regarding the 650's, do they bleed a lot of sound? Cause I'd get them but I'm concerned about the sound bleeding into the condenser mic (very sensitive).

I've always considered the sennheiser HD280 to be the sm58 of the headphone world. I think everyone and their brother has them and use them for mixing phones.

I just got the HD280's and am undecided whether I like them.
They are very isolating so it's good for tracking, especially at the price point. But I feel like it's a bit muddy, not clear...so I'm not sure if they are good "reference" headphones... |
