Estimates on fixing cracks on guitar's top
I saw a guitar listed online for a very attractive price ... but the attached photos are not so attractive. Apparently the top has at least 3 cracks, one running from the bottom of the bridge to the bottom of the guitar and the two others are about two-thirds of that length and one-third of the length.
What would be the low-end cost to fix the surface by just using cleats and glue? I say "low end" because my luthier buddy will likely fix it for me and give me a very low price. He has done some work for me for either free or for just paying for the supplies. Thanks.

Darn, never thought to consider that.

There are a number of ways to fix a top crack, some cheap some not. But it is hard to get a very stable fix that will endure thought humidity changes. And harder still to make them invisible.

The answer lies with the tech/luthier doing the repairs, after inspection and discussion with the owner. Lots of variables. And not a single word from us posters matters anything at all.

I have what I call the 'friend of the family' discount. I fixed a good friends daughters cello (cracked heel block) for free and he brought me a dozen farm fresh eggs.
Having said that, as with most things it's hard to tell online especially without pics. A crack that goes under the bridge is more expensive one as the bridge needs to be removed. |

With substantial cracks like that, the top wood has moved even though it was held in place by various cross braces. So you need to include some thought about likely loose or broken braces as well as the top wood itself.
