I still have my first guitar ever, a 1979 Gibson The Paul, 100% walnut except for the ebony fretboard.
The only other walnut guitar I've ever played is this OM, built in 2014 by Ed Claxton. I am very fortunate to have scored an instrument of this caliber. In 40 years of playing, I have never enjoyed any guitar as much as this one. |

My J-15 was bought to take noodle/practice time from my '03 J-45 adding years to the frets.
The speedy maple neck and its excellent tone has been a surprise. I argue the J-15 is the modern day "Workhorse" because of it's price and tone. J-45's are simply too expensive for starving musicians. |

If you go by playability, I'd have to say the Taylor 150e 12-string I have at the present time, though realize that it's back and sides are layered/laminated walnut (regardless of that fact, it is a great sounding guitar).
I've played a few solid walnut guitars over the years, but none of them have impressed me as much as the 2014 Gibson J-15 I used to have in 2014 & 2015. I'd still have that guitar, if it weren't for it's neck - it was just too thin for my taste. As it was, I hung onto it for almost a year, because it sounded so good, but I just couldn't live with its neck, despite my best efforts to "adjust to it." Sorry, but time and time again, I've been reminded, that me and Gibson slim taper necks do not get along.

I’ve owned 3 walnut guitars and still own 2. My favorite is this Froggy Bottom K Adi/English Walnut. Brucebubs, I think the chart is accurate, the dashed part of the line to the left side represents how the low end develops as it ages.

This Walnut Whitebook JTS is the best I've ever heard or played. Mark estimated the Spruce soundboard on this guitar to be over 50 years old. Mark had a stash of legacy tone wood that he used to build the last 29 guitars of his building career (2014-2019). In addition to the beautiful Walnut Sides and 3 piece back this guitar also has a Walnut neck, Ebony fingerboard, bridge and Peghead veneer. A fabulous instrument!

My Lowden F-23, Cedar/Claro Walnut. Superb in every department, and my favourite of all the guitars I’ve owned...

My Rick Micheletti Osprey Rigid Rim. Followed closely by my Gibson Jackson Browne Signature. The Micheletti has a cedar top; the JB is spruce.
The JB sounds fundamentally like a Gibson, more than it sounds like a walnut guitar. The Micheletti just sounds great with its own sonic signature. Micheletti - 1 (1).jpg Micheletti - 2.jpg

Other than a few people with a J-15, my Taylor 12 fret is the only walnut acoustic I have encountered. I used to have a bass that was mostly walnut. |

I used to wonder about using the soundboard out of an old discarded piano to make a guitar top. Now I know a luthier who is doing it. I'll be back over there soon, I need to remember to ask him about it... -Mike "stashes of legacy tone wood..." |

I like my Martin 000-E Black Walnut, a limited edition from last year. Sounds different from both rosewood and mahogany!

I've never owned a walnut guitar but I played a cedar over walnut Lowden S-25 and it was staggeringly beautiful sounding.

Add my name to the Gibson J-15 list; never played one that I didn't like, a couple I absolutely loved - and if they had a '60 LP Reissue V3 neck (first-generation Slim Taper) they'd be perfect...

20+ years ago there was a walnut dread from Harvey Leach hanging in a Denver pawn shop that was a great sounding guitar. That remains my favorite of the few I've played.
Pretty sure there'd be a new fave if I ever played Paul's Froggy though |
