Default upgrade from gs mini

I've been playing off and on for years, and have always found a dreadnaught to be tremendously bulky. I'm a little guy, 5'3". It wasn't until a few years ago that I discovered parlor size and loved it, but most models I played, even more expensive ones, sounded "boxy." The I came across the Taylor mini--I have two--spruce and mahog. I love them both--size, tone, playability.

I would still like to upgrade to a similar body size, nut 1 11/16, but with obviously more quality and tone. I'm willing to give up a little in larger body size to get a better quality, but I don't want to get into bulky.

I really want to stay with a 1 11/16 nut.

What do you think of a Martin 00-15M as an upgrade.
I was also checking into a Guild F 20--sold wood ideal size, but I wonder?

If you can find them I'd suggest checking into an Eastman E10P or E20P. These are Parlor sized guitars.

Check this E20P clip from Sound Pure:

I have Taylor GS Mini and I don't think there is anything like it, however, a GC3 or GA3 would be a nice upgrade. I wouldn't suggest a Guild M-120 or Epiphone EL-00 because I think they sound boxy. If you can deal with the size get a GA3 or even a Martin 000-15M.

Was the gs mini good to learn on. I'm 5"10 not big hands. Think it would suit or should I go bigger?

I'm 5'10" with what I assume are average sized hands. Lots of much shorter women play big ol' jumbos. Learn on a full-sized guitar.

I'm 5'10'' now but when I started learning at age 10 my first guitar was a Jumbo. Funny how I'm a grown man playing small guitars 15 or so years later.

To respond to the OP, you might try a Martin 00-15M. You'd be going from solid top/laminate to all-solid wood mahogany.

+1 on this.

I really enjoy the GS Mini Mahogany ... but the 00-15M is the one I ended up with. It is soooo much more guitar, and only a tad larger. Non-custom models do have the 11-1/16" nut.

Two guitars that would be a vast improvement over the Mini but are about the same size, would be the Martin 7-28 (I've got one) and the Santa Cruz Firefly (I want one.) However, both would be in the $3,000-$4,000 price range.

That jumbo must have swallowed you up unless you were a big kid...

It's not the size of the toys, it's the quantity and the quality!

Let me put it this way...

I had a Martin OM-21 special which is by all accounts a fabulous instrument.
I recently purchased a gs mini mahogany which I love.

I sold off the Martin.

Now, I am not saying that the gsmini is better then the Martin. What I am saying is that I enjoyed playing the mini more then the martin, so I sold the Martin. (And I do love the tone of the gsmini. It is a "real" guitar to me)

Note: Your results may vary!

I second the Taylor GC3 or the 312ce. The Blueridge 341 or 361 is a great, all solid wood, parlor guitar - it does have a 1 7/8" nut width though.

Blueridge makes some nice OM sized guitars in either all solid wood or solid top and laminated sides and back.
Prices start at about $400.00.

i'd suggest trying a guild GAD M120, or if you can find one, one of the recently discontinued guild GADf20 or m20 guitars - all solid, small body, 14 frets, gloss finish, comes with a hardshell case and they have a 1 11/16" nut, which is the only reason i sold my f20.

eastman parlors are great guitars - i've played both many times - but they don't have the 1 11/16" nut the op is looking for.
