What are your favourite short and sweet guitar solos (acoustic or electric)
By short and sweet solos I mean your favourite solos that are generally less than a minute long and appear on album recordings of songs.
I don't mind if answers are borderline on this time limit though My favourite personally is the solo for "One Of These Nights" by the Eagles. I think it's perfect for the song and I always look forward to hearing it. Another favourite of mine is the solo for "That Smell" by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Short but again perfect for the song. Interested to hear your favs.

When you write, you wouldn’t just throw words into a bowl. There has to be a beginning, middle and end. Same thing with phrasing on the guitar" Jimmie Vaughan Last edited by hovishead; 10-20-2020 at 11:44 AM. |

yes.. "One Of These Nights" is a good one. I love the dynamics he gets in that one. It's so visceral.
But what first came to mind in you post is Martin Barre's solo in Aqualung, awesome stuff and ended too soon IMHO. Jimi's All Along The Watch Tower, probably tops my list, but I'm not sure it hits the requirement timewise. But he travels through so many different emotions in that track. That guy was so far ahead of his time. I have a few more I will have to ponder a moment. |

I really love the bordertown/Mexican-inspired solo in Kacey Musgraves's "High Time" (at the 1:35 mark).

I'm not sure if it counts, but all the little lines/fills that Mark Knopfler plays do it for me every time.
They're such an integral part of the song (and his style). Take something like the track Prairie Wedding - it's pretty much two strummed chords on an acoustic... overlaid with glorious little licks that just make the whole song stand out. That's my favourite sort of short solo!

Just about anything by Elliot Easton of the Cars - the solo in Best Friend’s Girl is a perfect example.

I don't want to spoil the party by the Beatles. Short, creative, and fits the song perfectly

I love the fade out solo on Cat's Steven's "Peace Train" and the fade out on Zep's "Over the Hills and Far Away".

Mark Knopflers first solo in Sultans of Swing...so classy, clever, and melodic, and I love the Chet Atkins harmonic arpeggio in there.
