Default Neil Young Song Thread

Because someone just posted a Neil video in the main discussion forum...

Why not?

That’s my all time favorite Neil song. Great job! The harp was spot on too.

OK, we need some more Neil Young songs, let me pitch in--and given my voice I use that word advisedly.

Here's an old recording of me performing a song from After the Gold Rush

I liked that, particularly those "jazz chords" up the neck in your playing.

Here’s another take on Long May You Run I did a couple of years ago. The guitar is an old Ibanez dread, my first decent guitar

Well, you all have done a fine job with some of Neil's prettier tunes. Except for Frank - Don't Let It Bring You Down is MY KIND OF NEIL!!! I like the pretty stuff just fine, but no use in my trying to sing them when almost anyone will do it better. I'll leave the pretty ones to everyone else.

With Neil, I always go straight to the weird stuff. On The Beach, Tonights The Night, American Stars and Bars - drugged out, post-apocolyptic, that stuff. So here's a quick and dirty one from On The Beach. I love doing his off the wall stuff like this. I might do a couple more before we're done here...

I'm with you: while I like most things Neil Young has done at least a little bit, the stuff that grabs me the most is when he's out there expressing some emotional state of mind. Every so often I need to let it out with a Neil Young in Crazy Horse sort of electric guitar solo too.

Yeah, when I wanna wail on electric, I’ll play the progression from Cortez the Killer, Like A Hurricane, or Down By The River into my looper and just go OFF. That’s big fun and a great release. When I was first learning to play, an old friend and I would jam to Down By The River seemingly for HOURS. I’m sure it wasn’t quite that long in reality, but we’d play it long and often…
