Here are two offerings for the Dylanfest. I was playing a lot of Dylan about 20 years ago, and this recording of I and I was made by a friend while I played it in the kitchen.

This second one, Baby let me follow you down, was recorded also in the kitchen, but by me, just a few years ago. I was trying emulate 1966 electric Dylan with a cheap electric guitar, a Fender Mustang, and a bodhran for percussion. ("Judas!")

These are both really good, and your version of Baby Let Me Follow You Down is more flat-out FUN than anyone should ever have playing Bob Dylan. Loved it!

You are very kind, Ray. Thank you for not mentioning that each instrument is desperately trying to find the tempo that all the other instruments are desperately trying to find - especially the large plastic spoon, bashing away at the bodhran. I'll settle for 'messy but fun' ....

Back in 1995 my band recorded a rehearsal at our bass player's house which included this Dylan cover. The bass player's 2 year old son decided to help out with some vocals and percussion about half-way through the song which cracked us up.

Hi, AFAIK I only play one Dylan Song and I felt I couldn't put it on here as Glenn beat me to it, but now someone else has done it too, so maybe it's ok?
Frankly, I've never been a great fan of Dylan, but this one contained a story that spoke to me.

It isn't a pretty song it's a bitter cynical song. so here's my version:

Nice one Andy.

I think this is possibly my favourite Bob Dylan song to cover. I was recovering from a chest infection when I sang this but I think I got away with it.

That's just lovely, and too few approach Dylan-used tunes as basis for guitar-based instrumental music.

Dylan's folk process borrowed a lot of trad tunes ("Blowin' in the Wind" is one, based on "No More Auction Block.") but that said because we now largely associate these melodies with his words/impact on songwriting, it gives the resulting instrumental music an extra tang of association. I think of Bill Frisell's version of "A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall" for example. If it was experienced as a cover of "Lord Randall" it would be different to the listener and probably to the player.

I used to use a free-playing structure (yes, a contradiction if there ever was one) of "Blowin' In the Wind" and "Purple Rain" where I'd obliquely quote themes from those two pieces amongst with free playing. For shorthand, I always write those takes down as "Blowin' Rain."

A singer could mash those tunes up too. "Purple rain, purple rain. The answer my friend, is blowin' in the purple rain."
