Default No Cold Beer In Heaven

New recent original song. I never realized the melody was so similar to Will The Circle Be Unbroken until my wife pointed it out! No problem though since that’s in public domain and has been adapted by many others. I’ve been told I have a similarity to the Cash sound but I don’t hear it.

Kinda funny but another original I posted on two forums I got identical comments from two people in different states. They said I sound like a combination Cash and Leonard Cohen. I still don’t get it but doing my best to own it. Main problem is I’m a textbook example of no confidence in my singing.

The more you do the more confidence you gain. Don't worry who you sound like-
not everyone liked Cash, or Elvis, or Sinatra, or Leonard Cohen- do the best DaveKell you can and enjoy it!

I enjoyed that alot Dave, thanks for sharing...imo your songwriting reminded me of the great balladeer writer Tom T Hall.

Dave,
I really enjoyed your guitar playing and singing!
My wife and I both hear a JC vibe.
You shouldn’t doubt your singing ability as you sound very good!
If I sounded like you, I would sing it loud, and sing it proud!
Thanks for sharing!

Well… I’m gonna try and take that to heart. Kinda hard to change a lifetime of belief though. Never thought anybody would like listening to me very long but about a half dozen of my originals get requested at open mics. Always figured that was for lyrics content, not my singing. A few people on this forum have commented my lyrics were reminiscent of John Prine. I just can’t internalize replies like that!

Lyrics + voice = style. Lyrics can be someone else's- the individuals voice makes them his in that moment in time asserting his style for effect.

Keep it up- post more.
