How long in the morning does it take you to “get your motor running”?
I work at home when not traveling for business (which means that I work for home exclusively, at least for now).
From the moment my feet hit the floor until I head to my office is usually about an hour. A little personal hygiene, make coffee, feed the dogs, drink coffee, check on line for news, e-mail, weather, etc., second cup....always about an hour. Weather dependent there is a dog walk in there. How about you?

It depends on the morning.
Normally I'm going as fast as I can achieve making coffee, a little food 15 peaceful minutes and a shower. I was paged at 3:34 AM today not yet rested from a network replacement and cut over done on Tuesday. Coffee and home made baked goods are nice but I don't expect a high performance me today and am hoping for one where you just motivate regardless.

It's not really about the time it takes but the caffeine it takes.
3 strong coffees minimum. |

I'm retired and there's a pandemic in play so I don't get going. Having said that it's about two hours until I hit my guitar chair and have a play. I make my tea, read a bunch of news then read financial informational updates and opinions. Then I check in to AGF. A visit with my Martin 1931 00-18 Authentic is next.

I'm wide awake and ready to go as soon as my eyes open and my feet hit the floor. That is sometime between seven and eight thirty in the morning. As far as my morning routine, I don't really have one. I'm retired, my whole morning just unfolds as it goes. But my wife is different. I don't even talk to her until she's done with breakfast, coffee and yoga.

I'm a night owl. I enjoy hanging with friends at the local watering hole and getting home at one in the morning.
I usually wake up by the crack of 9:30 every morning, but it's rare that I would ever get right out of bed. I gotta' lay there a while. It takes me a while to get on track. I'll stumble downstairs and make some coffee. These days, if it's not too hot, I'll enjoy the first cup out on the patio, underneath the awning. If it's too hot or rainy I'll grab my first cup and come back to my bedroom/office and hop online. I have to ease into my day. I can't go from being between the sheets directly to the shower. I'll die. Today I rolled out of bed at 9:40am. I'm guessing I'll drag into the shower around 11:30am, to meet a friend for coffee around noon or so.. Last edited by Kerbie; 02-22-2022 at 12:32 PM. |

I, too, work from home when I'm not traveling. I normally get up at 5:30, feed the cat, work out, shower, play guitar for half an hour, and start work at 7:00. I loved coffee when I was younger, but I haven't had a swallow for something like 34 years.

I alternate between working at home and working at the studio. There is a constant in there, however: I am on call at 7am for production to support a national show that airs at 9am. If I am working at home, I get up at 6am, dress, walk the dogs, hydrate at bit, and then grab a cuppa coffee before opening the morning emails. By the time I come back in from the dog walk I'm pretty much awake. I'll skip breakfast until I find out whether or not there's a production crisis. When I work at the studio I get up an hour earlier so that I do my morning ablutions and make breakfast before I go in.
There are days when I don't get enough sleep and am groggy after taking out the dogs but frankly, going out with them usually clears the cobwebs. Bob

My "typical" morning looks like this:
Out of bed around 7-ish Two cups of coffee (at home) Eat some yogurt Spend a little time on the computer Listen to news on Sirus Leave the house around 7:45 to go swimming Arrive at swim club around 8:15-ish In the water soon thereafter When does my motor "really" get running? About the time I hit the water....

If I can sleep through the night, my motor is running within 15 minutes of getting out of bed (somewhere around 6am.) Even when my sleep is ruined or I get up at another time, the motor's running within 15 minutes of getting out of bed.
Best, PJ

I’m not going to bother detailing my routine, every day is different.
I’m retired but I’m generally up no later than 6:30 A.M. It usually takes me about 10-15 minutes and a cup of coffee to be hitting on all eight cylinders, but I can speed that up with will power if required.

About an hour for me too most mornings, usually fueled by a Diet Mountain Dew -- sometimes two on rough days. I'm not a coffee drinker.

I put enough flavored creamer in mine so that there's no coffee taste left....
