Two more to add to the list, that I had forgotten the timing of...heh heh. Steve Kinnaird 12 fret SJ in Port Orford Cedar and Osage Orange, and a Tom Doerr Trinity in Amazon Rosewood.

Hi Col,

I was just emailing Sparky this morning to see if he wanted to take some process pictures and I would have a build thread here. I am one of those folks that is just happy to have him focus on the building but want to get him some airplay if I have the chance.

I have followed Sparky's fine guitars for about 15 years now and have always liked his tone and craftsmanship. I like the fact that he makes a scaled down slope shoulder design. Kathy's guitars are now priced way out of the range of my current budget considerations. That is not a criticism as she has earned her place in the market. So the fact that I could have Sparky build a guitar for me is pretty exciting. Since he is only about a 3 and 1/2 hour drive a way, I can take delivery of the guitar in person.

I had a great visit with him in his shop early last year when he heard me play and sing and we decided on the specs for this guitar. I will post here once I hear from Sparky and see where we are at in the process.

Best,
Jayne

Oh, I wish! For me to pick up my Wingert and my Baranik in person it started with a fifteen hour plane flight! I guess I'm lucky I travel for work and can fit my GAS around that.

If Sparky shares some photos that'd be cool, but the main thing is that he enjoys building you a great guitar.

I guess I have had this guy for a little while. Turned out really nice. Sounds like a nice, deep, and rich DN that's braced to allow for responsive fingerstyle playing. Between this and my Bob Thompson DN, and OM, I'm very strong in the traditional department.

I love your understatement. Just on the visuals I would say it turned out amazing!

Congratulations.

Thanks! It had some cracks, which the the builder repaired and disclosed. As a result, I got a heck of a deal.

Sparky has confirmed that he will send me some photos so I will start a build thread when I receive those. Pretty exciting.

Best,
Jayne

My custom order through MFG is a custom Martin 000-18 Norman Blake. Exact same specs as the stock model (now discontinued), the only two exceptions being a Premium grade Italian top and a cutaway.
