I am in the Morristown, Tennessee area. I have a McPherson Sable and an Emerald X30. PM me to make arrangements if you need to test drive either or both to get a feel for how they play.

I’m in Sonoma County, CA (Sebastopol), and have a stock 25 1/2” scale pinless bridge X20, plus a new 24.875” short scale X20. Anyone within driving distance is welcome to try them. If interested send me a PM.

Is there a cluster of Emerald owners here around the Twin Cities? Reading this thread, it seems that there are at least three of us with possibly 6 (!?!?) Emeralds between us. We need to have an Emerald party, but with all manner of CF welcome.

Hey mods, both RP and I have discussed this via PM. Can we make a merged "carbon fiber test drive" thread a sticky so it doesn't disappear so quickly? Pretty please?

Hmmmm.... I was sure that my composite instruments were listed in my original post, but apparently not. The "herd" at the moment is:

- X20
- X20-12 custom scale length
- X30 (sold but locally)
- X7 V2 woody (forward facing sound hole)
- CA Cargo
- Rainsong WS-1000 Classic weave
- Blackbird Lucky 13
- Blackbird ekoa Farallon ukulele

With some coordination, a new local friend could also bring by her Kestrel and a McPherson Touring. And I could borrow the X30 back from its owner, a jam buddy of mine.

Bump again to bring this thread back to the top. I also deleted some 2020 verbiage in the OP about hand sanitizer, etc. That no longer seems to apply. Carry on...

I’ve got an Emerald X30 and two Rainsongs, an H-OM and a Black Ice WS. I’m in central Long Island, always up for a drive into NJ, lower CT or a little further up in NY.

Would love to try a newer X20 because I’m in the hunt for a dread (specifically a Martin HD-28 in terms of tone) and would love to see how the X20 stacks up. The X30 is too big for me, looking more like a cello than a guitar when I play it.

Default Test Drives

I'm in Northern Virginia, and I have a Composite Acoustics GXi, Cargo, Blade, an Enya NexG (which is kinda fun), a Yamaha SLG-200NW, and a Journey Carbon Fiber Classical. The last two might end up sold sooner or later, so no guarantee on those if you try a few months later.

Default Kudos to test drives!

Wanted to post a big (and slightly belated) call out to Earl, the OP on this thread. We connected a few weeks back on various CF interests, when I wasn't even aware of this effort.
Anyways, my wife and I were in the process of organizing an intra-state move, and our travels took us through Boise, where Earl houses many lovely CF models in a to-die-for music room.
Long story short, he took time to let me drop in for an hour, play several different models, and we even managed to work out a guitar swap. Would have liked to play for longer, but a dinged fretting thumb and tight schedule made that impossible.
So kudos to this idea, and the AGF members who contribute to making it happen!
Cheers

Have had a few Martins, Taylors, and other wood guitars. They all sounded better when played by others...
