I've got your guitar's sister, a Taylor 12x12 552 with hog body and cedar top. I compared it to playing a pipe organ when I first tried it - really lovely. Easy to play. I take it to a local monthly bluegrass jam to compete with the banjos and mandos - I must admit to getting some funny looks from traditionalists.

One of the secrets is to detune the E and B unison strings. Not randomly detune, but listen to the chorusing effect until it hits your mark.

Default Belated NGD...

...I forgot to add I bought one of these, in red quilt, a month ago as a birthday present to myself.

It slots in very nicely with my Faith and Martin 12 strings.

Nice! When you mentioned local (to you) woods, I thought you were probably rocking a Cole & Clark

I can't find my machinist's ruler, but judging by a cheap plastic ruler it appears that the string spacing to either set of strings is 2 5/16"

Congratulations on the new 12-string Swamp Yankee! Enjoy it in good health.

I find that most songs I play sound better with another 6 strings...not all, but definitely most.

Thanks - the Maton and Taylor 355 on the right are both gone now.
I still have the Morris, Guild and Martin left and centre.

Nice guitar there Jimmy. I have one similar (Cole Clark Fat Lady 2-12) though yours looks like Bunya/Blackwood? Mine is Spruce/Queensland (or is that Queeeeeeensland!! lol) Maple so probably different tone but the same feel. It's been my player of choice for the last 2 months or so although I've had it 4 years now.

At 2" (51mm) probably one of the widest nuts for a mass produced 12 string around but I wouldn't want any less. Also the body is deeper/wider/longer than my D-28 so they're big girls whichever way you look at it. Was using D'addario mediums (12-53) tuned D standard but have just retuned to standard E on lights (10-47) so I'm in tune with everybody else. Have still ditched my plain octave 5th string in favour of a wound 0.021, just my preference.

Been using it for a regular open mic & find if I bias slightly more to the face plate over the UST it gets the ideal sound. if you have one of the newer ones it might have the 3 way with condenser mic as well. Enjoy playing it, Cheers Mick

My first 12 string a used Alvarez 5018. I loved the way it sounded. A very nice bass with being too bright. Alas, I sold it. I've regretted that action since.

I've had three other 12 bangers since. A quite horrible Ibanez, a Takamine Jumbo, and currently the Taylor 150e.

I still miss that 5018.
