the Neil Young classic Southern Man
For as many Neil Young songs as I know for some reason I never
learned this one. Maybe I figured it was an electric song that didn't translate to acoustic well. I remembered back in school I had done research on slavery and slave society. Fascinating to learn what life was like for genrations of slaves. Slavery was considered a normal way of doing business in the South from about 1605 through the Civil War. Even after the Civil War Jim Crow laws legislating segregation were in effect and were finally done away with in 1965. This song came into my head so I decided to finally learn it and here I am flailing away in a very unrehearsed take making it up as I play: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaVuCMNM4Dk

Great cover!
I live in Southern Louisiana. Trust me, it's better, but it's still here. Maybe we need some more songs? Ignorance is so hard to overcome. appreciative mud
