#4: slope shoulders dread, sitka/sassafras
Hi everyone,
I would like to introduce you my latest build: It's a dread with slope shoulders, 12 frets, the specs are: -Bearclaw sitka top (from Lmi) -Blackheart sassafras back and sides (from australian tonewoods) -Ebony fingerboard, bindings and bridge -Red purflings and shell inlay in the purflings and the rosette -Kaya Mahogany neck with laminations -Bone saddle and nut -Nitro finish with spray rattle cans (last time I use these, I think..) I made this guitar for.. myself It has a quite wide neck (46.5mm on the nut, 58mm on the 12th fret), I wanted a neck comfortable for picking. This guitar has many little flaws everywhere, the finish caused me a lot of trouble, because rattle cans are expensive and I think the lacquer is thinned too much in order to be used in cans. So, to build a good finish it takes forever and costs a lot.. I hope you will enjoy it! Thank you to all amazing luthiers who share their work on the agf, it is a true inspiration for me as an amateur luthier! Quentin This is my little assistant, gathering the wood shavings on the floor (yes, I work at home, with my son running around the table ) |

Hey Quentin, nice work and a pretty bit of Sassy. Did you get the Khaya from Tim as well?

Thank you!
Actually the khaya is coming from a wood company based in Turkey. I bought several boards of khaya 2 years ago, which was not quartered, so I used it with laminations |

I don't know where you see flaws. I think it look wonderful! I'll listen to the sound clip later, but really like the look of the guitar and you should be very proud of yourself!!

Really nice looking guitar--love the look of the sassafras and the headstock! Very cool to see your little guy running around helping with the clean-up! :-)

Wow, that seemed fast.
18, 19 pictures in, and you've got strings on. Would you like a job? (Ryan's quick, but I'm always slowing him down.) Oh, and a fine looking guitar for sure. Beautiful set of Sasafrass! Steve |

Thank you Steve!
Actually, the guitar took me 7 months to build, because I do it at home, and I don't have room for a worktable, etc.. I have to unpack my tools and pack it again when I'm done, which takes a lot of time... I have many other pictures, though.. Here you can see a picture of my go bar deck: my piano! Go Lie Nielsen! Great looking guitar. Sassafras is one of the most beautiful tonewoods around, inspired choice for a 4th build, great work.
I really like the picture of the 'shop floor assistant' - he looks very happy there! |
