Crack in finish? Guild d120
I noticed a crack in what appears to be finish on my guild d120. Should I be worried ?

Assuming it does not extend into the wood, no, not at all. But, be careful of humidity changes and rapid temperature changes, as that is a likely culprit.

Hard to see what's going on. Snap a few more pictures from different angles and post up the best one.

If it’s a finish crack then there’s nothing at all to be worried about in terms of structural damage to the guitar, they are purely a cosmetic thing. That said you might want to invest in a hygrometer so you can monitor humidity levels in the room the guitar is stored, in order to prevent more finish cracks from appearing.

Looks more like a bubble under the finish.

If it's a scratch you can buff it out with a fine T cut. If it's a crack in the varnish, I have just repaired my Taylor 914ce clear varnish cracks with thin CP glue and a couple of chips with medium CP glue, a stanley blade, 1200 wet & dry paper and fine T cut. you can't even tell that they were there now. Looks like paint seperation from the sealer coat.

I'm guessing it's the finish pulling away from the intersection of the neck and the body. Looks like the guitar was finished after assembly and the thick finish goes 'round the corner between the two parts. I suggest leaving it alone, the finish looks thick in that region and any repairs, I think, imply removing the bubble area and blending new finish in. Lots of aggravation for nil gain at best, a real mess entirely possible.
If this instrument's neck is bolted on, make sure they're snug. |

One could drill thru the finish and fill the air gap with CA glue to minimize finish rebuilding hassle. Looks like a thick finish. If it were mine, I'd do nothing. |

Nothing to worry about, IMHO.

Good info.
Better to use a hot paperclip. (Same method I use to puncture a smashed fingernail to initiate blood geyser.) |

Thanks for the info everyone. I guess it just bothers me a bit as it's a new guitar. If repaired, would it be a lot of work/cost?

If it's a new guitar, return it.

If it's brand new you should just return it for a different D120.
