Here you go, from Wikipedia. Here is a link to the full article too.

"the act represented a calculated and deliberate attempt to avoid long-standing rules designed to encourage fair play and promote honest competition on the playing field."

Correct, but I was talking in the context of Superbowls. It had nothing to do with the Eagles.

So they didn't cheat or if they did it wasn't that bad or everybody does it they just didn't get caught.

The only lame excuse I haven't heard yet is "He hit me first Mommy!"

Whatever gets you through the night.

Back to the original question. I am only following two story lines.

One is about the halftime show, but no discussion there.

Secondly, the apparent ability of Tony Romo to predict exact plays before they happen. I have really enjoyed this aspect of Romo's broadcasts this year because he often describes the reasoning of his call based on personnel, formations, and pre-snap movements.

However, I don't think he is psychic. The best QB's, MLB's, and safeties are all anticipating what the other side is going to do based on film studies and known tendencies. When one side guesses wrong, there is a potential for a big play. But mostly they guess correctly, and the result of the play depends more upon the execution of each individual player's assignment within the team game plan.

You hear it all the time during the post-game comments -"We knew what they were going to do, but just couldn't stop them" (defenders) or "they knew what we were going to do when we came to the line" (offense).

I am pulling for the Rams, but expect the Patriots to win per the old axiom:"Old age and cunning will beat youth and skill every time."

Well, since I am here in NorCal, just a few miles from Novato, CA, Jared Goff's hometown. I am rooting for the Rams. I followed him at Cal and it has been fun following his development as an NFL QB. Tom Brady, of course, is always fun to watch and he is from just south of SF. I guess the mayors of the respective home towns have bets. Whoever's QB loses, that mayor will donate to a charity in the other home town. That is kind of cool.

I just hope it is a good game with no major injuries or awful gaffs by the officiating crew.

Best,
Jayne

Haha. Of course, he's not psychic. It's a QB's job to diagnose the defense.

Personally, I'm rooting for Roger Goodell to retire.

I can't root for the Rams because I can't support a team in the Super Bowl only because a game is rigged to bring the SECOND largest media market to the single biggest money making television event in the world. And no, I am not a Saints fan. My blind nanna could have made that call, yet 7 officials (4 from SoCal) somehow conveniently didn't see a thing. Right.

As for Roger's buddy Kraft and the machine from Boston, well let's just say it's great to be a Giants fan lol. Old Tom Terrific has a big old NYG stamped on his chest because they own him.

Roger and Kraft are in now way, buddies.

Yes, they own him... thanks to one of the luckiest catches in the history of the league.

The NFL has been fixing games for years, but usually its just point shaving. How many times has a team "beat the spread" suddenly at the end of a game with a "remarkable comeback" as the announcers (salesmen) like to say....

The Saints/Rams game has tainted the Super Bowl this year. It'll be the "game that shouldn't have been" and no matter which team wins, that'll always be the "but" whether spoken or not.

Still, I'll feel a little better if the Rams win,

So the Patriots cheated when they made that comeback against Atlanta?

It was Atlanta that threw the game, so that their wonderful city could host a Super Bowl. I mean, everyone by the half already knew which was the better team.

Seemingly lost in all this "human error" stuff, we have a little fine tuning on the NFL officials part the league seems to have forgot;

In a playoff game (Rare for Detroit Lions) 2/5 years ago against Dallas, Dallas was called for blatant pass interference but......the referees conferenced and DECIDED TO "PICK UP THE FLAG". Detroit lost the game! That didn't happen this year. Yeah, the Dallas and LA TV markets are too lucrative to pass up!

About the only thing going, and worth watching this year, is the national anthem and the half time snarls.

Yes, to someone that has been watching pro ball since the end of 1967, it looked like a fix.
