Default Deerbridge D-12 smoked oak

I got this guitar a couple of days ago (commissioned end of 2017).

The specs:
Top: german spruce, bearclawed
Neck: honduran mahogany
B&S: smoked oak
Fingerboard and bridge: ebony
Headstock overlay: smoked oak
Binding: herringbone
Pickguard: Celluloid
Tuners: Schaller GrandTune
Frets: EVO
Manzer wedge on the body
K€K Pure Mini pickup and Phase Preamp

Here are two pictures of the wedge:

I‘m pretty happy with the outcome, the guitar is big, sounds big and is ergonomically what I hoped it would be.
Here’s a little quick one:

Great looking guitar! The "smoked oak" looks great. The 12th fret inlay is very cool - any significance behind it?

Looks almost like Rosewood, right?

Well, the deer is his logo. The builder first opened his shop in a small town named Hersbruck in southern Germany (he moved his shop to another small town last year). Hersbruck can be translated into „Deerbridge“, the name of the company.
Oh, and it‘s the seventh fret.

Smile Sounds great

This axe sounds very nice indeed, and your picking is sweet, too!

I love my JK Custom with the Manzer Wedge ! The comfort is easy on the old shoulder!

What effect does smoking the oak have on tone, and workability? It does look like Rosewood.

Have fun and play on in fine health

Paul

Default the power of deerbridge

congratulations,

Martin is one of the best builders I know in germany and his guitars have such a lot of power and also an own warm voice with it's own "dirty" character, that you need a long time to find something comparable.

all the best with your new friend.

By the way I once waited more than two years, but pleasant anticipation is known to be the best kind of delight.

Thanks Paul. That iv line has been taken out since, thankfully.

As for the effects of „smokin‘ the oak“ - I wouldn’t know. It would be rather difficult to A/B that, tonewise. Maybe mostly aesthetic?
