First time fixing a Guitar. Would love some Help
Hey all,
New to the forum. I have an old Eston guitar. It originally belonged to my uncle who bought it in '79 (it was built 11/78). When He passed away in '96 the guitar went to another uncle until recently. I got the guitar last year and am ashamed to say I haven't done much with it since getting ownership. Today I started to pull the guitar apart so I can fix it up a bit and would love some pointers on how to proceed. First the tuning machines: Would I have any chance of finding something similar, or would I be better off getting a new design and drilling holes to make them fit? Next the nut, I don't really know of any nuts shaped like this. Is there any out there this shape? or do I buy a blank and shape it until it fits? Last is truss rod adjustment. Do I put something through the hole facing the camera and turn it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Last edited by BobbyBoy; 04-28-2019 at 01:43 PM. |

Put a little grease on the tuner cogs and see if they hold a string in tune.
Your nut is simply a string guide, you have a zero fret fitted. The trussrod should have an allen key shaped innard, use an allen key to adjust Steve

Lube the running pegs and see if they work. If u prefer new that I doubt it’ll b hard to get some new ones to match the screw holes les however the acutual holes that the pegs go thro in the hedsock may need something special. Go take a bunch of measurements and then go to stew Mac and see what will work for u
The nut is easy. Just make sure u buy one the same thickness or there will be some okay and u don’t want that. No clue on the truss rod but most use a Allen head |

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Re the nut, should I get a nut the same size as the current and file/carve the grove out of it, or just get one the same size as the nut slot? Thanks again all. |

As long as the over part goes toward the head stock you can just buy one that is the same size as the slot

An allen wrench may work, but I suspect the inside is round, not hexagonal.
