Interesting grid line-up for the Canadian GP.
Vettel/Ferrari on pole - at last! Hamilton/Mercedes 2nd - watch that at the start! Leclerc/Ferrari 3rd - and he's quicker than everyone expected this year. Ricciardo/Renault 4th place - ahead of both Red Bull cars! To be fair Max Verstappen/Red Bull was robbed of a possible better position due to a crash that ended the session early - he will certainly be worth watching during the race.

Canada is the one race of the season where anything can happen and anyone can win.
One of the best races in last 20 years was Canada 2011 where Jenson Button started 7th, dropped down to last and then won on the last lap. Granted, it was wet and took about five hours to complete but what a race. Love Canadian GP |

It certainly was an exciting race. I'm not dedicated to any team or driver, although I'm looking forward to Mad Max getting the high podium.
Also, while I'm not a Ferrari fan, and Vettel DID make a mistake, and I did think he might have gone to the right to defend his position, but I do not feel that the 5 second penalty was the best decision, and I feel it spoiled the race. NOTE: It was NOT Hamilton's decision, and NOT Mercedes' decision. Did the stewards follow the rules? Yes. Was the rule appropriate to this circumstance? I'm not convinced. Did Seb have a hissy fit at then end? 'course he did, can't say I blame him ... he made his point and I hope h doesn't get further penalised for that. Did he weigh in?

I can see both sides of the rule interpretation, but Seb was a passenger in the car cutting that corner. Yes he made a mistake but there was no way he could control rejoining the track. By the same token you could argue he unfairly retained track position. The ruling wasn't good for the sport. Feel sorry for Seb and I'm not one of his fans. |

I see what happened as, simply, a racing incident. This was unfair to Seb.
Neither Seb, Lewis, Ferrari, nor Mercedes were to blame, just the stewards for interfering in an exciting race. Once Vettel had calmed down (somewhat, anyway) he never said anything bad about Lewis, not did Lewis, going by the podium ceremony.

These last two races have questioned the term 'Race'.
In Monaco, Lewis was told to stay behind lapped runners in order to win the race - so effectively be the slowest car and you'll win. Then in Canada he is told to finish second to win the race. I agree the decision against Seb was harsh and not necessarily good for racing but if he had not made another of his customary mistakes, the debate would not exist and we would have had a great race to talk about. In making this decision the Stewards didn't just rob Seb of a race win, they robbed the fans and the Canadian circuit as well. |

Telemetry and on board camera suggests Vettel looked in the right mirror and turned to the right to pinch Hamilton after he regained control. Last year Kimi benefited from the same situation with Max V. I think the 5 seconds was harsh but for once the stewards were following the rules of joining the racing line.
I used to be a huge CART fan, hated what Tony George did to CART and stopped watching Indy Car. I am back to watching Indy Car because of the quality of racing these days. F1 has huge issues with the top 3 dominating and everyone else is best of the rest. Williams lapped 3 times? Sad to see that. Have followed F1 for a very long time but they have to have more parity. Lesser teams should have unlimited testing to improve their cars but money dominates F1. |

After the Canadian...I'm out. Shades of the Kentucky Derby. Yes, I know there are rules but, but, but. Some of you may recall a golf tournament several years back where a fan watching on television noticed a rule violation and called it in and beyond belief his call made it to the marshals who in turn assessed a penalty to a golfer which changed the outcome. If you don't win you litigate to win what you don't win on the field of play.

I think Vettel could have lifted, but he stayed racing. That's what took him across the racing line and why it was an unsafe entry. Stewards got it right. I thought it was going to be a 5 second penalty as soon as it went under review. Vettel went off the course with Hamilton .5 seconds behind him. Hamilton would have passed him easily had he not either: pinched him into the wall, or, if you believe he was a "passenger" at that point, then an unsafe re-entry forcing a slam dunk pass from happening which isn't right or a racing incident. It's Vettel being Vettel which he exhibited so worth of his sissy fits at the end of the race.
How many passes make a track a viable worthy? More than Monaco ever has. It's too tight a street circuit for cars as fast and wide as these are now.

Who remembers an incident at Adelaide in 1994 when Michael Schumacher made contact with Damon Hill?
It was the very last GP of the year. Michael was leading the championship from Damon by 1 single point. The contact bent Damon's front suspension and he was forced to retire. Michael wins his 1st world championship. Deliberate? If Vettel thinks he was robbed at Canada just imagine how Damon Hill felt after this!

Today's race was quite a good one (aside from those silly stewards ).
