NGD 1977 Yamaha G255S

I was strolling through the pawn shop a couple of days ago and came across this old girl. I am much more of a steel string player, though I do have an old 1971 Yairi 5150 classical, but the neck angle is off so it just sits in the case. I grabbed this off the wall and noticed it had a solid top, so I did a quick google and realized that this model was generally held in high regard. It was in pretty good condition, sounded decent and the price was right. It even came with an old classical case. Score! I threw on some new strings, took off the sticker that was on the upper bought, lubed the gears and leveled the bottom of the saddle. While I don’t play classical and I’m not sure what a good classical is meant to sound like, this sounds quite nice. I think I may need to learn a classical song or two. Asinine, but the guitar is one month and 19 days older than me.

Thats a nice looking guitar. A lot of nice inlay, probably the top of the "G" or "CG" line at the time. Rick

The Yamaha looks very nice. I envy the luck you have had in pawn shops finding your D-18, D-28, J-45 Custom all in the shops. Keep going and find the D-45 and tell us.

I’ll settle for a D-42. I’ve found some cool electric guitars, watches and pool cues too over the years.

I have been very fortunate in my findings. I like to say, “ You either have the time to find the gems or the money to buy them outright. If you are really lucky, you have both.”
