Aromatic Cedar as a double side lining?

Hi all, I am building an OM, spruce top, canary wood sides. I want to make the sides double sides. Thinking if its ok to line it with Aromatic Cedar. I have some 4" wide knott free boards that are long enough or would it be better off with a traditional Cypress lining instead? Thanks!

John Kinnaird has made quite a few with double sides, to GREAT effect.

He has used Spanish Cedar for the linings, blocks and innner sides on a couple of mine. Worked and smelled great.

Of course SC is neither from Spain or a true Cedar. Closely related to Mahogany.

Thanks Paul! I was reading on aromatic cedar and its not a true cedar. It is more like cypress. So I guess with that school of thought too that cypress is often prefered as a double side lining is viable. Maybe I should just have fun and build on?

Aromatic cedar is a juniper. It is VERY resonant. I first discovered this when cutting down an old cedar tree and listening to the logs ring when stacking them. It is a little brittle but I would not hesitate to use it if you can get it bent. As a bonus it will keep the moths out of your box

Get some Super Soft II. It will help bend the softwood. They tend to like crushing on tight radius curves.
