I LOVE my Presonus Acousti-Q. Putting a decent ECC83 into them is the secret to getting a nice sound from them. They blend pickups or pickups and mics, have a notch filter which is very effective, and active EQ. They also have a switchable Boost function-which I do not use- and switchable FX loop:

I'm in Lyons at least three times a week. It's only 15 minutes from my home.

They have Planet Bluegrass and the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival there every year.

I'm going to have to pay Grace Audio a visit.

The DI-Max is the best and most flexible 2 channel mixer I own. It's only connection to phantom power is if the board or amp you are plugging into will feed phantom back down the XLR to the UltraDI Max to power it up instead of using 9 volt battery power.
ljguitar,

I'm considering the DI-Max to blend 2 sources, phantom power not necessary. Do you still think this is the best bang-per-buck? It's cheap enough. The only knock I have on it is it's size... not small. I like the individual channel EQ. Any other options out there?

Thanks.

Anyone know the current draw on the Ultrasound DI-Max? I can't find it anywhere...

I rather like the Baggs MixPro (which I think they may be discontinuing, it's not listed on their site anymore) and it's pretty effective at blending two passive pickups and the second channel is well designed to handle a mic or SBT. As a whole, it has a good deal of gain available for both channels, a relative phase switch, phantom power for channel 2, and has two levels of bass trim for the second input, which will tame a boomy mic or SBT.

The only drawbacks I see is that the case is screwed shut and all the gain and trim controls are in there and you may find yourself fiddling with it for a long time to get your levels where you want them, so that's a bit inconvenient for experimentation and mastery of the unit. The device itself is definitely mid-2000s Baggs as it's a belt-clip twin of the Para DI and is kinda ugly with tiny controls. The pots are passive as well, which means you need to open the volume and treble up all the way to get the full frequency response of your pickups. You can then dial it back if you need less bass or whatever.

Though it can blend any two pickups for the most part, it seems designed with UST & mic in mind. There is a jack that Baggs made for it called the Buffer Jack that they recommend, especially if you're using a mic and it will eliminate bleed through between the channels. I don't experience bleed (I think), but some will. The jack is hard to find, but I might pick one up because why not?

Anyone any thoughts or views on the AER Dual Mix Pocket Tool? I'm very trusting of my AER compact 60 and if I thought the sound would reflect it in any way I'd be more than happy...

I have used the Headway for years without any problems - but that is mixing an external mic rather than two internal pickups.

I've always seen this as a device to effectively give you the amp controls next wherever you are standing or seated.

I know people who use the more basic unit and that has all the quality you would expect. I assume this piece of kit would be up to AER's usually quality.

I have the Ultramax DI, but I think that it's pretty low fi. The inexpensive Zoom A3 is better.

Message me if you'd like to buy my Ultramax.

I have alot of people recommending the LR Baggs Venue DI... but I feel its only useful if you only have the one output from the guitar.... That being said, Ive come across many with those and so far none with an AER pocket tool!
