Congratulations!
That was at 500 mm and cropped a bit, but hard to estimate. Perhaps a 3 to 4 times crop. So, the effective focal length is probably between 1500 and 2000 mm. Does that sound about right?

Unforunately with a relatively small aperture and short focal length, I can't really resolve the small details, but it actually came out better than I thought.

It's going to be cloudy for a few nights now, so I will try to redo the Markarian Chain soon to see if I can get it better. I'll PM you the best version when I'm done.

Kerbie, all that fuel weight means you can only bring a single, 3/4 size guitar with you ... for everyone to share!

Thanks. I think the picture before it is better though. I'm going to adjust the colors in that one later.

I've spent the past few minutes just thinking that if you could zoom in enough we would see 100 billion more flecks of light in this pic.

I agree, the picture before is better.

I am continually astonished by what you have accomplished so quickly. It is quite humbling.

I would like a shot of that...and that Virgo Cluster shot. Actually I would like the Virgo shot more as it is a more rare image scale.

Speaking of which, if the M51 shot is cropped 4 times do you have a capture of M101 in there as well? Depending on your orientation it may be possible. THAT would be very very cool.

BTW, I found this interesting shot of the magnetic field lines in M51.

Yeah, I'm amazed I can take pics like this from my condo. I'm not bragging about my ability, I'm just saying the tech is amazing these days. It's so cool.

Thanks and cool pic. I responded in the other thread with Virgo. I just started M101, so look at that thread.

Yes I see that. But is your image scale enough to get BOTH M51 and M101?

Ahh... I see. I could probably try, but I think it will be hard to frame and very hard to process since they are on two completely different magnitudes.

Maybe I'll try it later as I want to target a globular cluster next after a few more nights on M101.
