Tom Rush , known for some sombre stuff on occasions (he was my first inspiration) . I don't think he wrote this - but great entertainment.

and here's humble self - with my song about my lack of decisiveness.

Tom Rush. He's Mark Twain with a guitar. He made an entire album of humorous songs called "Trolling For Owls".

The Who - Sell Out comes to mind
Jonathan Richman
Newton Faulkner (UFO is an odd one)
And I’m not quite sure when Bowie was pulling our legs . . .

We do three of his tunes:

Joannie, The Jehovah Witness Stripper
Honky Tonk Neanderthal
This...He's like Mitch Hedburg with a guitar.

If your playing those, you should add Mission Temple & Fireworks Stand. I think that is his best tune.

As a solo player, I like to do I Don't Like Half The Folks I Love.

Rodger Allan Wade too, he's a bit bluer than Paul Thorn.

How about John Gorka? My wife thinks he's a depressive, but in person, he has crowds chuckling with his wry wit- for example

"I saw a woman with your hair/so I asked her to give it back..."

"You know he comes from trouble/ and he's always going home."

"Money talks, says 'Jump'/ ask 'How High?'/ Go ask Donald, what's his name..."
