S. Yairi or Craigslist Experts?
Please pardon a bit of background ...
I'm finally able to schedule weekly lessons on a responsible basis, and would like to start with classical, but I'm not sure I want to cart my elderly S. Yairi around. So I found a newer S. Yairi on Craigslist at a reasonable price, not too far away by California standards. (Yes, my current classical's made me spoiled.) I wasn't familiar with its model ("clase") number, but S. Yairi had, shall we say, an individualistic approach to model and serial numbers, so I figured I'd just Google it up. The only cites I found for an S. Yairi HG-20 were an old eBay listing and another Craigslist post in a different California city. Both showed the exact same photos as the listing I'm considering, so all three appear to be for the exact same guitar. So. Finally, a couple of questions ... -- Anybody familiar with the S. Yairi HG-20? (Like, does it exist?) -- Is this a Craigslist scam I'm not familiar with? Thanks for any wisdom you can provide!

You might try the Yahoo Yairi discussion group.
Unfortunatly yairiluvr, a contributor there and also on this site, recently died and she had an encyclopedic knowledge if S. Yairis and K. Yairis. Good luck!

Thanks ... I actually joined that group about a month after YairiLuvr's passing. Will ask there, too.
I've had very good luck with Craigslist purchases in the past (cameras and computers, mostly), but this listing just strikes me funny.

True enough, TXStratHack. Thanks! Backing away from the suspicious object and moving on ...

Well, that doesn't reek of a scam to me. It sounds like somebody tried to sell on eBay, could not, and as listed the same guitar on different Craigslist city sites. When I sell on C-list, I always list on two cities so as to reach out to the greatest number of local people. And with C-list, you can talk to the seller, by phone and face to face, and handle the object and make an informed decision.
In other words, it may be worth a phone call. Christina |

Wish I could see it, I have seen 4 or 5 different labels on S. Yairis as well as a few headstock shapes... I own several of his, very happy with them all.
