AKG Lyra vs Neumann TLM 102
I choose Akg Lyra instead of Shure mv88+ last week.
Then, I compared with Neumann TLM 102. 102 needs audio interface and computer, more expensive (maybe 5x or 6x). but youtube just can use 128kbps. Need the expensive one? and, |

From my experience you will never regret going with Neumann if there is a way you can afford it.
It will reward your recording experience. I have three Neumann mics that I've bought used and have had no problems with them. |

Actually YouTube recommends 128 as a compromise to limit file size and make upload faster However if you upload uncompressed WAV files then YouTube uses 256 kbps ACC. It looks like the App for the 88 actually records WAV files IMO Best to go for the max possible rather than a compromise for you Music Videos That said you might try the M88 but record at 24 bit 48k sample rate and upload that. to Youtube and see how you like the sound Before investing in the 102

Those are very different mics. The Neumann is superior in every way.
The question you need to wrestle with is whether or not the expense is justifiable. Are you happy with what you have or do you see a need to upgrade? The problem, you will find, is that there is always an upgrade path. I mean, from the TLM102 you could upgrade to a U87...and from there to the U67 or M49V.

Even to my Luddite ears, the TLM 102 was a real gem. I dont have the proper jargon to explain WHY, but I just LOVE it.
Do you NEED one? Absolutely not. Will you be glad you got one? Absolutely! If its in your budget, go for it. If not, there are plenty of other things you can do to enhance your recordings.
