Default The Flower of Magherally...this time in DADGAD

This is Jim Tozier’s arrangement from his fantastic book Celtic Guitar Solos. Very accessible yet beautiful arrangements.

It’s a little different from the version in standard tuning I recently posted. I like em both! What do you think?

Played on my ridiculously amazing Mcilroy AP25 Custom. I just cannot get over how wonderful this guitar is [emoji846]

Recorded with Shure MV88. No post editing. Just a little bit of pre EQ and compression. No reverb. Just those lovely Irish overtones.

The tone of that McIlroy is just perfect. Glad to see you are enjoying it so much!

Thanks so much Dustin! That means a lot coming from you ...especially after all those demos you just recorded

Your A36C on “Cherokee Lake” totally sold me on McIlroys! And this one is just right for me!

Thanks for listening and for the encouragement.

Cheers!

Both guitar sound good but the Mcilroy AP25 Custom is the better.

Of course, man. It's a pleasure to see and hear when a guitar is a good match for someone. I have a very (very) short list of guitars I regret selling and the A-36c is on that list. Along with 2 others.

Thanks Barry! It’s such a beautiful song isn’t it?! So glad Jim Tozier gave us this arrangement. It’s my second DADGAD piece I’ve learned by heart. The beginning of a beautiful journey I hope.

Very nice - your playing is really good and almost no string noise, which is tough to achieve. Guitar sounds great too :-)

Thanks Peter! That’s mighty kind of you. I’ve just started playing in DADGAD and a few other alt tunings the past year or so. It’s very inspiring!

I’m playing Elixir HD lights...I wonder if they tame the string noise a bit.

I’m so glad your enjoyed the McIlroy too. The cedar walnut is just what I was hoping it would be. And the custom thinner depth (110mm) is not only more comfortable but also a wee bit more balanced.

Haha! Thanks for the encouragement. I love Jim Tozier’s book too. Like you said, he has just the right mix of easy enough to get started in DADGAD and some to challenge you to keep growing.

Well done for this great recovery. The sound is very good, I have the same microphone via my Ipad.
I just recorded this piece but with a smaller guitar ...
Have a nice day and take care of yourself

Merci beaucoup!!

Yes, I just watched your recording of this yesterday. Lovely playing and your guitar and the capo sounded much sweeter than mine

I think you’ve been getting wonderful sound from your MV88 too. It’s a great little microphone.
