Default Please recommend a condenser mic for < $100

Hey guys,

I'm just getting into home recording and need a condenser mic for my
acoustic guitar. I use a SM58 for the vocals. Please recommend something
that is decent without breaking the bank. Thanks.

Also, will I need a preamp too? I am using a Presonus Audiobox USB 96 as my
interface.

The AT2020 is a decent budget mic that runs around $100 new. They go on sale sometimes, I got mine for $50-60, if I remember right. There aren't too many mics in this price range that I'd consider worth getting, might be better to save up just a bit more and have more choices. It's also nice for guitar to have a pair of mics. An alternative is to get something like a Zoom recorder, where the entire recorder, self-contained, with mics, preamp, etc can be had for a few hundred dollars, depending on the model. If you're just getting started, these will likely give you more immediate positive results than a more complex setup, and (again, depending on the model) can also act as the preamp/recording interface to a computer when you want to try that.

Your Presonus Audiobox USB 96 has microphone preamps built into it.

I'm not familiar with microphones in that price range other than the Line Audio CM3 (it's around $130). It's very nice for the price but it's a wide cardioid polar pattern which may not be ideal for your only condenser mic.

The AKG p170 full retail is $99, used can be had for about 30-40% off. I’ve tried it, it’s pretty good for a starter mic.

I have pricier small diaphragms, but I have a pair of AKG P170s. A single (or pair) is often my go-to for SDC. It's an excellent budget mic.

Doug Young's opinion is golden around here.
