Gurian guitar neck pins
Hi guitar lovers. I've a Gurian S3R from 1980 which I've recently acquired and decided to restring. While restringing the guitar I took a peek inside in order observe the bracings and the pins that attach the neck to the body. Upon inspection it seemed like the pins were half way out!
Is anyone here familiar with this neck join and could tell if it's the normal position of the pins? I was thinking maybe they were not put all the way in for some reason, or got loosened in transport... By the way, it's a lovely guitar even though the nut is too narrow for my taste. The mojo on the instrument is unbelievable! I will try stringing it with thinner strings (.11-.52) as it seemed to me that the previous ones were overpowering the top a bit and it wanted a lighter touch The guitar: The pins: And check out the work on the bridge block! |

It is normal for the pins to stick out. They are tapered, and function to pull the neck tight against the body. Having them stick out allows for something to grab onto if the neck needs to be removed. Do you see any gap between the neck heel and the body?

No, there seems to be no gap. I guess this is totally normal and I overreacted.
Thanks for the tip! |

Gurian has a long scale—while I’ve never had 11s on mine, they should work just fine.
