Default Compensation for Private Party /Gig

Hi,

Pre-Covid I was typically earning around $150 for a 3-hour solo gig at local restaurants, breweries, and the like. Wondering if private party gigs earn the same or perhaps more ? While inquiring about a potential outside (patio) gig at a restaurant today the manager mentioned Christmas parties so I thought I'd reach out to fellow players here on AGF for some compensation guidance. COVID is always a wild-card but I want to educate myself. THANKS!

In order of "pay", from lowest to highest, I'd rank gigs this way:

-Playing at a friend's gathering (low pay, if any, although I'd accept whatever)

-"Normal" gigs; bars, restaurants, coffeehouses...

-"Holiday" gigs at the above...

-private parties

-Holiday private parties

-Corporate gigs

-Holiday corporate gigs

Naturally, there are a lot of extenuating factors to be considered... travel time and distance, number of folks expected to attend, difficulty of load in/load out, length of time of the gig, what types of music are desired/acceptable, actual location where I'll be playing... stuff like that, all of which would influence the price I'd charge.

Hope this helps! this Covid thing might even add a couple more "factors" into the above list of extenuating circumstances... Good luck!

I'd echo jseth. I love private parties; some will even tip on top of the agreed-upon fee.

For private party gigs/weddings I charge $100/hr with a 2hr minimum if it's a local gig.

If it's not local, I add onto that for travel and hassle expenses.

This sounds reasonable to me. I haven't done anything since covid hit, but before, I was doing similar.
