Default JT and Aura...

Maybe this has been posted already, but I stumbled on this at the Fishman site. JT had his Olsons retrofitted with Matrix UST's and then a custom image recorded and loaded into his two new Aura's.

Scroll down to the last feature on the page...

That's quite a feather in the cap for Fishman. I believe JT has always been a Baggs LB6 user in the past. If the Aura is good enough for JT (and Paul Simon and etc...) than it's good enough for me.

They pulled the feature from the above link. No mention of JT on the artist list anymore as well. Hmmm... maybe James wanted royalties from Fishman to use his name.

More likely he's using the Pendulum he's been using for well over 10 years.

JT will be using the Aura for his current tour. I have tickets to see him in concert later this summer.

Here's a an article that talks about it:

Hi Folks,
I'm happy to report that JT is still the happy owner and user of the Fishman Aura. I've had chats with him and his crew and they are very happy with the custom Olson Sound Images we created for his guitars. The artist news on our website gets updated with current events so some of the older information is archived automatically. We may re-post the JT info soon to avoid confusion.
Thanks,
Joe B.

It was a little confusing as there was a JT featured artist graphic/link but nothing about him when you clicked on it. Thanks for the update Joe.

Just Curious Joe... Would JT still use his Pendulum preamp with the Aura or would that be redundant? I guess I'm wondering if there is anything else in his chain before he goes to the board?

rainsong,

There would probably be some headroom advantage to using a passive Fishman film UST with the Pendulum and the appropriate module, as opposed to using the onboard Matrix system. If its true that JT has converted to Fishman pickups, however, its much more likely that he's using the Matrix system than a passive film pickup. In that case, the only advantages (which occur to me) to using the Pendulum blender in the signal chain would be a) the availability of parametric EQ, or b) the ability to blend some SBT signal, mag signal or mic signal with the Aura-tized UST signal.

Hey Rainsong,
The stage set up is: Guitar (with either the LB6 or Matrix depending on which instrument he's playing) to the Aura, to a Peterson StrobostompTuner to the board. That's it.

Hmmm, except for the tuner (I use an Intelli clipped to the headstock) that's my stage set-up too! I should sound just like James Taylor, no?
Well, except for the Olson guitar and the talent, that is!~

Frankly, I'm not surprised at all. The engineer I record with still thinks it's the most workable preamp/sound he's ever heard. I agree... I wish I hadn't sold mine!

Not that it makes and difference at all but....would you not expect that the guitar(s) would go to the tuner first before the processor? The Strobostomp is supposed to be 'true bypass' and as good as the Aura is, it still processes the raw sound of the guitar and you would think that the unprocessed guitar would be more 'true' to the tuner. I've always kept my tuner as the first pedal in my chain throughout my non-illustrious career.

Just wonderin'

Brian

The Aura does not change note pitch. As for where a tuner is in the chain, as good as the Peterson is, I'd move it ouside the direct chain altogether if possible.

You'll most often find the tuner last in the chain so you can send the most direct pickup signal to your other devices. A good reason to keep it (the tuner) in direct path is the mute feature. One more note: The Aura has a built in digital tuner which also mutes the output, making the use any other external tuner unnecessary (unless of course you've had your Peterson for years and want to keep using it...)

Thanks,
Joe B.
